Gratitude: A Lifestyle

When we live busy and fast-paced lives we get caught in the swirl of the day to day, and we often forget to be thankful about what we have.

I know there are some seasons in our lives that are hard, where it’s not easy to see the good in the midst of it all, but it should be a constant exercise of ours to be grateful for what the Lord has given us.

Gratitude is an active response, shifting focus from problems to blessings, and a demonstration of faith.

Even in difficult times we can thank God because he is good and faithful. We can look back and realize we have come a long way; those are our testimonies. Testimonies give us faith to hope for a better future. We can live the present with faith knowing that our God is faithful to fulfill all his promises.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” Psalm 107:1

We don’t give thanks out of a place of trying to get God’s good side, to see if he would change his mind and give us good things and maybe help us out a little. We give thanks because he already has given us Himself and we have a revelation that He is good.

Not that he is just like a good person, noo!! There is nobody in the whole universe that is as good as Him. His goodness is way above what we can imagine. Think about that! Think about a person that you know who is incredibly good, now multiply that a billion times… that’s our God.

We need to get a revelation of who are God is. When we know Him we are able to give thanks to him in the good times, in the bad ones, when we have little, when we have much, when we are waiting for our miracles and when we have received them. In all times we will be thankful.

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18

We give Him thanks not because of what He can give us but because of who He is and what He has already done for us.

As we get more revelation of who God is, our lips will declare his goodness and worship Him. When we praise Him not because of our circumstances but out of awe of who He is and His power, we will be able to thank him in all circumstances.

4 Ways we Practice Gratitude Daily

1. Always pray

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Phillipians 4:6

2. Lift up your Worship

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.” Psalm 100:4

3. Be Generous

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17

4. Testify to others what He has done

I proclaim your saving acts in the great assembly; I do not seal my lips, Lord, as you know. I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your faithfulness and your saving help. I do not conceal your love and your faithfulness from the great assembly.” Psalm 40:9-10
